When did Florida basketball last win the SEC Tournament?

As the Florida Gators prepare to take part in the upcoming SEC Tournament at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn., they do so with a renewed sense of optimism and a favorable No. 2 seed. The No. 5-ranked Gators (27-4, 14-4 SEC) are poised to make a deep run in the tournament, and their sights are set on claiming the championship title.

However, it’s been a while since Florida last tasted SEC Tournament success. The Gators’ last conference tournament title came in 2014, when they dominated the competition at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. That season, Florida went undefeated in the SEC, boasting an impressive 18-0 record. The team was led by a seasoned senior core, featuring center Patric Young, forward Will Yeguete, forward Casey Prather, and point guard Scottie Wilbekin, who earned SEC Player of the Year honors.

The 2013-2014 season was a remarkable one for the Gators, as they went on to reach the Final Four for the fifth time in program history. Although they ultimately fell to eventual national champion UConn in Arlington, Texas, the season was a resounding success, and the SEC Tournament title remains a cherished memory for Gators fans.

Fast-forward to the present, and Florida is once again in a strong position to contend for the SEC Tournament title. Despite a disappointing loss to Auburn in last season’s championship game, the Gators have regrouped and refocused, with their sights set on claiming the championship this time around.

With their No. 2 seed, Florida will likely face stiff competition from other top-ranked teams in the conference. However, the Gators’ impressive regular season performance and their recent success in the tournament suggest they have what it takes to make a deep run and potentially claim the title.

As the SEC Tournament gets underway, Florida fans will be eagerly watching to see if their team can recapture the magic of their 2014 championship season. With a talented roster and a favorable seed, the Gators are poised to make some noise in Nashville.
