Eli Tomac, the four-time 450 Pro Motocross Champion, experienced a rollercoaster of emotions at the High Point National. Despite finishing third overall, Tomac’s day was marked by contrasting performances in the two motos. In the first moto, Tomac struggled, getting buried and failing to capitalize on his speed. However, in the second moto, he made a strong comeback, taking the win.

Tomac’s frustration with the first moto stemmed from getting stuck behind his teammate, Justin Cooper. He acknowledged that he didn’t make a move early enough, which cost him valuable positions. Despite putting in fast laps, Tomac couldn’t overcome the deficit. In contrast, the second moto saw Tomac getting a better start and quickly maneuvering his way into the lead.

The track conditions played a significant role in the second moto, with the softer ruts baking and growing harder before the rain arrived. Tomac described the conditions as “nerve-wracking” but noted that everyone had to adapt. When the rain hit, Tomac’s decision to switch to roll-off goggles during the parade lap proved beneficial, allowing him to maintain visibility.

Tomac’s moto win in the second round was a testament to his skill and adaptability. He navigated the challenging track conditions, including the slick ramp on the quad jump, with caution. Tomac’s experience and quick thinking enabled him to adjust to the changing conditions and secure the win.

Despite the mixed results, Tomac felt positive about his performance, citing his speed and consistency in certain sections of the track. However, he acknowledged the need for more consistency across both motos. Tomac’s third-place finish overall was a respectable outcome, given the competitive field.

The High Point National was a valuable learning experience for Tomac, who will look to build on his strengths and address his weaknesses in future events. With the AMA Pro Motocross Championship series ongoing, Tomac will aim to regain momentum and challenge for the top spot.

Tomac’s comments after the event highlighted his focus on consistency and adaptability, key factors in motocross racing. As he continues to compete, Tomac’s determination and expertise will be crucial in his pursuit of success.
