Max Verstappen won’t be competing for the drivers’ championship for the first time since the 2020 Formula 1 season, following the summer break. Verstappen has struggled with the RB21’s subpar performance throughout the current campaign. Despite snatching wins occasionally, the car hasn’t been consistent enough for multiple Grand Prix victories in a row.
Strategy has been an issue for Verstappen in the current season. At the Spanish Grand Prix, Red Bull’s strategy to put him on hard compound tires during a safety car period cost him points. Verstappen was furious with this decision and even clashed verbally with George Russell during the race.
James Hinchcliffe, speaking on the Red Flags Podcast, noted that Max Verstappen tends to make mistakes when he gets “revved up” in the car. Hinchcliffe discussed how different drivers have unique mentalities and approaches to operating at the highest level in F1. Drivers need to be self-aware to get the best out of themselves.
As of the report, McLaren Racing leads the Constructors’ Standings with 559 points. Oscar Piastri is leading the Drivers’ Championship with 284 points, followed by Lando Norris and then Max Verstappen. Several Grand Prix races are upcoming in the remainder of the season.
