In the debut episode of her new podcast What’s the Point, two-time Olympic gold medalist Mikaela Shiffrin welcomed a very special guest: her fiancé and fellow ski racing star, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde.
The couple opened up about their early encounters, a near-miss romance, and their journey to engagement, offering fans an intimate look at one of skiing’s most celebrated power couples.
Their story began over a decade ago in Chile, where the two first crossed paths. The real spark, however, came years later at an Atomic media event—their shared sponsor—when they were the only athletes to arrive a day early. That night, they had dinner together, joined by Shiffrin’s mother and her agent.
Shiffrin playfully asked Kilde if he found the evening awkward. “Not at all,” he replied. “That’s why I asked you out again.”
The next day, during the event, a shy Shiffrin sat in the back. Kilde made a beeline for the seat beside her. “I thought, ‘Is this guy into me?’” she recalled with a laugh.
Later, Kilde messaged her on Facebook to suggest another dinner. Shiffrin, attempting to flirt, responded, “We already had dinner.” He took it as a brush-off. She thought he’d ghosted her.
“And the rest,” a voice chimed in off-camera, “is history.”
The couple began dating in 2021 and announced their engagement in 2024. On the podcast, they addressed ongoing curiosity about their wedding plans amid busy schedules and recovery challenges—Kilde is still rehabbing from a severe crash in January 2024, while Shiffrin prepares for the upcoming Winter Olympics.
“We’re getting married, everyone—relax,” Shiffrin said lightheartedly. “There are just a few things going on right now.”
Kilde shared that when he proposed, he told her, “There’s no rush. I just know you’re the one.”
The episode blends humor, vulnerability, and insight into life at the top of alpine skiing, making What’s the Point a promising new platform for one of the sport’s biggest names.
