Alpine skiing stars Mikaela Shiffrin and Aleksander Kilde have reassured fans about their upcoming nuptials, addressing persistent questions about their wedding timeline during the debut episode of Shiffrin’s podcast, What’s The Point with Mikaela.
The couple, engaged since April 4, 2024, after nearly three years of dating, first crossed paths in 2014 at the Alpine Ski Racing World Cup in Chile. They reconnected in 2021 following the passing of Shiffrin’s father and went public with their relationship that May via Instagram.
In the podcast, Shiffrin directly tackled fan curiosity: “Let me tell you that people want to know, when is the wedding? We’re going to get married guys, calm down. It’s gonna happen. Just, there’s just like a couple things that are going on right now.”
Kilde echoed her sentiments, emphasizing their commitment without pressure: “We also talked about the first thing… We don’t have to do this now. I just know, you’re the woman of my life and that’s gonna happen.” He reflected on the proposal, noting he anticipated Shiffrin’s practical concerns about scheduling: “The Google planning, just like, ‘okay this is not fitting into my calendar right now, so, we gotta wait a little bit.’ … I know there’s this unwritten rule, like you have to do it a year within after the engagement or whatever. I’m not sure actually. I just heard it.”
The pair also discussed online criticism of their relationship, including suggestions that Shiffrin should retire to focus on her personal life. “It’s funny to read the insights that people have about our relationship, and just like, aggressive,” Shiffrin said. “Some people get aggressive, and honestly, a lot of people… tell me it’s time for you to retire. Just go be with Aleks.”
Shiffrin, a two-time Olympic gold medalist (Sochi 2014 and PyeongChang 2018) with four Olympic medals overall, is preparing for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy after a medal-less performance in Beijing 2022. Kilde, a Norwegian skiing standout, continues to support her amid their shared professional demands.
The podcast conversation highlights the couple’s balanced approach to blending high-level athletics with their future together.
