Two-time Olympic champion and world record holder Mikaela Shiffrin will return to competition this Sunday, November 23, in the first-ever women’s FIS World Cup slalom at Gurgl, Austria.
The 30-year-old American comes into the weekend fresh off a dominant victory in Levi, Finland, on November 16 – her 102nd career World Cup win and ninth triumph on the Levi Black course. Shiffrin won by 1.66 seconds, the largest margin of victory in a women’s World Cup slalom since January 2023, posting the fastest time in both runs.
With chief rival Petra Vlhová still sidelined following knee surgery, Shiffrin is the clear favorite on the steep, icy Gurgl piste that has hosted men’s technical races but will make its women’s World Cup debut this weekend.
First run is scheduled for 10:00 CET on Sunday, November 23, with the second run at 13:00 CET. The race will be broadcast in the United States on Peacock and outside TV, and across Europe on Eurosport and national channels.
A victory in Gurgl would give Shiffrin her 103rd World Cup win and further extend her all-time record.
