New Zealand’s Alice Robinson produced a breathtaking performance to claim her fifth career FIS Alpine Ski World Cup victory in the women’s giant slalom at Copper Mountain on Sunday, delivering one of the most commanding runs of the young season.
The 23-year-old Kiwi, who already owns an Olympic bronze and multiple World Cup podiums, was simply untouchable on the demanding American track. Starting with bib 3, Robinson laid down the fastest first run and then unleashed an explosive second leg that no rival could match, crossing the line 0.96 seconds clear of the field.
“It feels incredible,” said an elated Robinson at the finish. “The snow was aggressive today and the course set was tough, but I just tried to ski my own line and attack from the first gate. Everything clicked.”
Austria’s Julia Scheib fought valiantly to take second place, her consistent two runs earning her first podium of the 2025/26 season. Norway’s Thea Louise Stjernesund rounded out the podium in third, 1.08 seconds behind the winner, continuing her strong early-season form.
Robinson’s victory marks her second giant slalom win in Copper Mountain (she previously triumphed here in 2022) and underlines her status as one of the premier technicians in the discipline. With this result, she surges to the early lead in the giant slalom standings and sends a clear message to defending overall champion Mikaela Shiffrin – who finished outside the top 10 today – and the rest of the field.
