New Zealand’s Alice Robinson delivered a breathtaking performance to claim her first-ever FIS Alpine Ski World Cup super-G victory on Sunday, stunning the speed specialists on the iconic Corviglia course in St. Moritz.
The 24-year-old giant slalom standout, starting with bib No. 6, clocked a winning time of 1:14.84 to edge out France’s Romane Miradoli by just 0.08 seconds. Italy’s Sofia Goggia rounded out the podium in third, 0.19 seconds back.
American legend Lindsey Vonn, fresh off a historic downhill win on Friday and a second-place finish on Saturday, narrowly missed the podium in fourth (+0.27 seconds). Mikaela Shiffrin, returning to speed events after nearly two years, skied out after missing the penultimate gate.
“This was such an epic day!” Robinson said after the race. “I’ve always struggled with the super-G to feel the same intensity as in giant slalom, but today I just went for it. I felt amazing – clean but pushing hard.”
The victory marks Robinson’s seventh World Cup win and her first outside giant slalom, where she already leads the discipline standings this season with multiple triumphs. It also makes her the first New Zealander ever to win a World Cup super-G, broadening her threat ahead of the Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympics.
The tricky course, set by U.S. Ski Team coach Alex Hoedlmoser under clear sunny skies, proved challenging, with several racers – including Germany’s Emma Aicher, Saturday’s downhill winner – failing to finish.
Robinson’s breakthrough in speed events solidifies her position as a multi-discipline contender, closing the gap to overall leader Shiffrin in the standings.
The women’s World Cup speed weekend in St. Moritz concludes a thrilling opener to the discipline, following Vonn’s record-breaking downhill triumph and Aicher’s upset on Saturday.
