Sofia Goggia delivered a masterful performance on the demanding Oreiller-Killy (OK) piste, storming to victory in the women’s World Cup super-G and securing her 27th career World Cup win – her first of the 2025-26 season. The 33-year-old Italian clocked a winning time of 1:20.24, edging out New Zealand’s Alice Robinson by just 0.15 seconds despite gusty winds interrupting the race.
Robinson, the 24-year-old sensation who has already notched multiple podiums this season, claimed silver with a strong early run before the delay, holding off a charging field. Completing an epic podium was comeback queen Lindsey Vonn, who grabbed bronze (+0.36) for her second straight third-place finish in Val d’Isère. The 41-year-old American legend, in the midst of a remarkable return after years away, reached speeds over 115 km/h but couldn’t quite find the perfect line to challenge for the top spot.
Goggia, who had shown blistering speed all season but only managed thirds in St. Moritz earlier this month, finally converted her form into gold. “I’ve been skiing fast, but the win was overdue,” she said post-race, redeeming a disappointing DNF in Saturday’s downhill. This marks her eighth super-G victory and fourth triumph on the iconic Val d’Isère slope.
Vonn’s back-to-back podiums extend her storied career tally to 142, proving age is just a number in her quest for more glory ahead of the Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympics. Robinson continues her breakout speed campaign, solidifying her status as a multi-discipline threat.
The women’s World Cup now heads into a holiday break before resuming in January.
