American skiing legend Lindsey Vonn claimed her 142nd career World Cup podium on Sunday, finishing third in the women’s super-G event and capping a dominant start to her Olympic season.
The 41-year-old Vonn, who returned to competition after a five-year retirement and a partial knee replacement, delivered back-to-back bronze medals over the weekend in Val d’Isère. She placed third in Saturday’s downhill before repeating the feat in Sunday’s super-G, crossing the line in 1:20.60 — just 0.36 seconds behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy. New Zealand’s Alice Robinson took second.
Vonn’s consistent performance continues an extraordinary comeback that has seen her notch four podiums in five races this season, including a victory in St. Moritz last month that made her the oldest winner in World Cup history. Her latest result solidifies her position as a top contender heading into the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, where she aims to compete in Cortina d’Ampezzo — a venue where she has won a record 12 World Cup races.
“This year everything is working — my equipment, my team, my body,” Vonn reflected after the race. “I’m making mistakes and still ending up on the podium. That’s a huge difference from last year.”
With 83 career victories and now 142 podiums, Vonn remains one of the most decorated alpine skiers ever. Her strong form has already qualified her for the U.S. Olympic team in downhill, and she leads the World Cup downhill standings.
The women’s speed events resume in January, with Vonn poised to build on this momentum as the Games approach in February 2026.
