Olympic Legend Lindsey Vonn Steps Outside for the First Time in Over a Month After Devastating Leg Injury

Skiing icon Lindsey Vonn sent an electric message of resilience and comeback energy to her fans today, declaring her long-awaited return to the outside world after more than a month of intense recovery.

The three-time Olympic medalist and most successful female alpine skier in history posted an upbeat update accompanied by photos and video, writing: “Look out world! Here we come…. it’s my first time outside in over a month!”

The milestone comes roughly six weeks after Vonn’s dramatic crash during the women’s downhill at the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics in February. Competing at age 41 in a stunning return from retirement—including a partial knee replacement—Vonn suffered a torn ACL in a pre-Olympic training crash, yet still started the race. She hooked a gate early in her run, leading to a violent tumble and a complex fracture in her left leg.

The injury required multiple surgeries (reports indicate at least five in a short span, including a major reconstructive procedure), weeks in the hospital, and a grueling rehab process. Vonn was airlifted from the course, spent nearly two weeks largely immobile in a hospital bed, and later shared updates on transitioning to a hotel, returning home, and beginning gentle movement like stationary biking to prevent permanent stiffness.

Despite the setbacks, Vonn has documented her progress with trademark determination—posting gym sessions, small wins like using a rope pull machine, and defiant messages against doubters who questioned her age or comeback ambitions.

Her latest step outdoors marks a powerful symbol of progress in what she has called “a hard and painful journey.” Fans flooded social media with support, celebrating the fighter’s unbreakable spirit.

Vonn, who has endured over a dozen major surgeries in her career yet keeps defying odds, isn’t just healing—she’s signaling she’s far from done. The world is watching as one of skiing’s greatest legends takes her next steps forward.

Stay tuned for more updates on Vonn’s recovery. As she put it: the comeback is just getting started. 💪❄️
