In the midst of one of the toughest recoveries of her life, Lindsey Vonn is turning to the memory of her late mother for strength.
The 41-year-old Olympic ski legend, still on crutches just six weeks after a horrific crash at the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics, shared an emotional Instagram post revealing how much she misses her mom, Lindy Anne Lund.
“Wish you could have been here this year,” Vonn wrote alongside a touching video of her mother celebrating her bronze medal win at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics. “I don’t know if you would be more proud now than you were at the 2018 Olympics when I got bronze…. But I would really love to know.”
She added poignantly: “I bet you would have lifted me up in the hospital and made everything better. You always gave me the most amazing perspective and I’m trying to keep that going, especially now.”
Lindy Anne Lund passed away in August 2022 after a courageous battle with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). Vonn has repeatedly credited her mother’s resilience during her illness as a guiding light through her own career filled with injuries and comebacks.
A Mother’s Legacy of Strength
Vonn’s latest tribute comes as she continues rehab from a devastating February 8 crash in the women’s downhill. Just 13 seconds into her run, she caught her arm on a gate, lost balance, and suffered a complex tibia fracture, broken ankle, and compartment syndrome that nearly led to amputation. She has undergone five surgeries since.
Despite the pain and uncertainty about her skiing future, Vonn is pushing forward — recently posting videos of herself doing pull-ups on crutches and getting back on a stationary bike.
Her mother’s example remains central to that fight. On International Women’s Day earlier this month, Vonn called Lindy her “forever inspo,” sharing photos of her cheering from the sidelines and writing: “The most positive and resilient woman I have ever known! If she could be positive, so can I!”
Fans have flooded Vonn’s posts with support, calling her tribute “beautiful,” “inspiring,” and “a reminder of real strength.”
Building an Empire Beyond the Slopes
Even amid recovery, Vonn’s financial success continues to shine. Her net worth in 2026 is estimated at $8–14 million, built largely through high-profile endorsements with brands like Rolex, Land Rover, Delta Air Lines, and others. While her on-slope prize money totaled around $2 million over her legendary career (with 82 World Cup wins), smart business moves, media work, and investments have secured her future.
Vonn has said she’s focusing entirely on healing right now and isn’t ready to decide whether she’ll retire for good or attempt another comeback. “I was already retired for 6 years and have an amazing life outside of skiing,” she noted recently.
For now, she’s leaning on the perspective her mother taught her — taking it one day, one pull-up, and one emotional memory at a time.
Vonn’s resilience continues to inspire millions, proving that even after a brutal crash, the fight — and the love that fuels it — goes on.
