In a powerful reflection on legacy, alpine skiing icon Mikaela Shiffrin highlighted how true greatness is built over years of relentless improvement rather than a single standout season.
With her latest triumph, the American superstar has secured a record-tying sixth Overall Crystal Globe, equaling the historic mark set by Austrian legend Annemarie Moser-Pröll. This achievement connects two dominant eras of the sport through a shared commitment to excellence and pushing the boundaries of alpine skiing.
“Some legacies are not written in one season,” Shiffrin posted. “They are shaped by an athlete who raises the standard year after year.”
Shiffrin’s sixth overall title caps an extraordinary 2025-26 campaign that already included her 110th World Cup victory, Olympic gold in slalom (won by the largest margin since 1998), a record ninth Slalom Crystal Globe, and dominant performances that helped the Stifel U.S. Women’s Ski Team claim the Nations Cup Overall.
She clinched the overall globe on the final day of the World Cup Finals in Norway, finishing 11th in the giant slalom — more than enough to hold off her closest challenger and etch her name alongside Moser-Pröll, who won six overall titles between 1971 and 1979, including five consecutive.
Shiffrin emphasized the deeper meaning behind the numbers: the impact of women across generations who have driven the sport forward through consistent leadership and determination.
“Different generations. Same drive to lead,” she wrote, paying tribute to the progress shaped by pioneering athletes like Moser-Pröll and those continuing to elevate skiing today.
The post, accompanied by a striking photo from Mattia Balsamini, underscores Shiffrin’s humility and long-term vision. At 31, she continues to add to her unparalleled resume — now with 18 career Crystal Globes — while inspiring the next wave of competitors.
This latest milestone not only cements Shiffrin’s status as one of the greatest alpine skiers of all time but also celebrates the enduring legacy of women who have defined excellence in the sport, season after season.
