The 31-year-old Olympic slalom champion and six-time overall winner is shifting gears — and the provisional calendar is perfectly aligned for her next chapter of history-making.
Fresh off her third Olympic gold in slalom at Milano Cortina 2026 and tying the all-time women’s record with six overall World Cup titles, Mikaela Shiffrin is far from done. Instead of resting on her legendary slalom dominance, the American superstar is channeling fresh curiosity into giant slalom (GS) and super-G.
“I have a lot of curiosity about how I can continue to improve in GS and super-G,” Shiffrin said in a recent interview. “It started to click at the end of the season.” On slalom — where she has won a record nine discipline titles — she was blunt: “I think I’ve reached my ceiling in how fast I can ski slalom.”
Provisional 2026/27 Women’s World Cup Calendar Highlights
The FIS has released the provisional schedule (pending final Council approval), featuring 40 races across 20 venues: 12 giant slaloms, 10 slaloms, 9 super-Gs, and 9 downhills. This balanced but GS-heavy setup plays directly into Shiffrin’s ambitions.
Season Opener: Traditional giant slalom in Sölden, Austria (late October 2026).
North American Block: Killington, Vermont (Nov. 28-29) returns with women’s GS and slalom — a near-home event for Shiffrin, who trained at Burke Mountain Academy as a kid.
World Championships: Crans-Montana, Switzerland (Feb. 1-14, 2027) — a massive mid-season target.
Finals: Sun Valley, Idaho (March 20-25, 2027) hosts the World Cup Finals for the second straight year, closing the season on U.S. snow.
A seventh overall title would see Shiffrin break the women’s all-time record outright. With more GS opportunities and room to grow in super-G, the calendar sets up a thrilling chase for more podiums, globes, and milestones.
Shiffrin has made it clear she’s motivated by growth, not just records: “What I know is that I’m not ready to be done yet.”
Ski fans, buckle up — the GOAT is evolving, and the 2026/27 season could deliver her most complete campaign yet.
