Olympic skiing legend Lindsey Vonn is leaning on memories of her late mother as she recovers from a serious leg injury sustained at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
On what would have been her mother Lindy Anne Lund’s 74th birthday, the 41-year-old champion shared an emotional Instagram tribute, revealing how deeply she misses the one person she believes could have helped her through this toughest moment.
“Wish you could have been here this year,” Vonn wrote alongside a touching video of her mom. “I don’t know if you would be more proud now than you were at the 2018 Olympics when I got bronze…. But I would really love to know.”
In the clip, a beaming Lindy responds to her daughter’s bronze medal win with pure joy: “I am the most I’ve ever been in my entire life.”
Vonn added, “I bet you would have lifted me up in the hospital and made everything better. You always gave me the most amazing perspective and I’m trying to keep that going, especially now… I miss you every day and love you more than anything ❤️”
Lindy Anne Lund passed away in August 2022 at age 70 after a courageous battle with ALS. She had already lived with permanent disabilities after suffering a stroke while giving birth to Lindsey.
Vonn has frequently spoken about her mother’s incredible resilience and the motivation it gave her throughout her career. In a previous interview, she shared the guilt she felt pursuing her skiing dreams while her mom faced physical limitations, saying it pushed her to train harder and never take her opportunities for granted.
Even as she battles her latest injury — a complex tibia fracture — Vonn continues to draw strength from her mom’s example of strength and fighting spirit.
The post has resonated widely with fans, highlighting the enduring bond between the champion athlete and the woman who shaped her.
