Lindsey Vonn is still winning — even after retirement, brutal injuries, and an incredible comeback.
The Olympic skiing legend has been named Athlete of the Year and Best Comeback for U.S. Ski & Snowboard’s women’s Alpine team at the 2026 Stifel Awards. The honors, announced June 4 and voted on by her teammates and staff, celebrate Vonn’s remarkable return to the slopes.
After nearly six years away, Vonn stormed back in 2024 and delivered one of her most consistent seasons ever. She podiumed in each of her first five downhills (winning two) and added more podiums in super-G. She was leading the downhill standings heading into the Milano Cortina Olympics before a devastating crash ended her season — leaving her with multiple serious leg fractures, a broken ankle, and compartment syndrome that required emergency surgery.
Despite the setback, Vonn’s resilience and performance earned her dual recognition. “It was an incredible season,” she said earlier this year. “Some of the most consistent and dynamic skiing I’ve potentially done in my career.”
Now off crutches and focused on recovery (with a full year still ahead), the Queen of the Slopes continues to inspire. From red carpet appearances to African safaris and upcoming Fanatics Fest, Vonn shows no signs of slowing down.
The Stifel Awards also honored top athletes, rookies, and coaches across all U.S. skiing and snowboarding disciplines, but Vonn’s double win stole the spotlight.
