41-Year-Old Ski Legend Lindsey Vonn Drops Truth Bomb: ‘I Still Feel 29!’ After Brutal Olympics Crash & 8 Surgeries

In a powerful reminder that age is just a number — and resilience knows no bounds — skiing icon Lindsey Vonn has opened up about her grueling recovery from a devastating crash at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, declaring she still feels like she’s 29.

The 41-year-old legend, who came out of retirement to chase one final Olympic dream, suffered a catastrophic fall just 13 seconds into her downhill run. The high-speed crash resulted in a complex tibia fracture, torn ACL (sustained in warm-ups prior), meniscal tears, bone bruises, and other severe injuries to her left leg that doctors feared could cost her the limb. She underwent multiple surgeries — reports indicate up to five procedures — and was airlifted for immediate care before beginning an intense rehabilitation journey.

Yet, in recent interviews, including with The Healthy and TODAY’s Craig Melvin, Vonn’s signature fighting spirit shines through. “I still feel like I’m 29!” she shared. “My dad always used to say the same. When you cross the 30 barrier, you first think, ‘Oh, I’m 30, I’m over the hill.’ I think I have the wisdom of an older woman, but I really only feel 29 in my body, minus this injury.”

Vonn’s comeback story had already captured the world’s attention. After retiring in 2019 due to injuries, she returned in late 2024 at age 40, becoming the oldest World Cup downhill winner in history. She pushed through a partial knee replacement and the torn ACL to line up in Cortina, proving doubters wrong who called her “too old” or a “has-been.”

“I dared to dream,” Vonn posted after the crash. “I would do it all again if I had the chance.” Despite the physical and emotional toll — weeks in hospitals, crutches, wheelchairs, and the mental battle of processing an unfinished Olympic chapter — she remains focused on healing and the future.

Her recovery has been slow but steady. She’s back home, progressing in physical therapy, and finding motivation in messages of support from legends like Wayne Gretzky and friends like Mariska Hargitay. Vonn has expressed gratitude for the journey, even as she navigates life post-surgery.

Fans and fellow athletes continue to rally around the champion, who has won four Olympic medals and 82 World Cup races in her storied career. Many see her story as inspiration for anyone facing age-related doubts or major setbacks.

Vonn’s message is clear: It’s never too late to chase what sets your soul on fire. As she rebuilds, one thing is certain — the fire inside this ski legend burns as brightly as ever.
