Lindsey Vonn just reminded everyone she is still living. Days after turning heads in a tight green dress on the U.S. Open carpet, the Olympic skiing legend was spotted in the stands at Arthur Ashe Stadium sitting next to Jimmy Fallon. Both were smiling. Fallon was clapping and laughing. Vonn looked completely at ease.
The photos hit because of the contrast. Six months ago she was fighting to keep her left leg after a brutal crash at the Milano Cortina Olympics. Multiple surgeries followed. She still has ACL work ahead, likely in November. On Monday night she was in New York, in a simple dark look, watching tennis and laughing with one of television’s biggest hosts.
This was not a red-carpet performance. It was two people who already know each other from The Tonight Show enjoying a match. That is why it landed. Vonn did not look like a patient. She looked like herself.
For fans following her recovery, that is the good news. The scars are still there. The next surgery is still coming. But so is the laugh. And right now, that laugh is winning.
