Olympic alpine skiing champion Lindsey Vonn’s long association with Baltimore was permanently etched into the city’s streets this week when West Peninsula Drive was dedicated as “Lindsey Vonn Way.”
The ceremony, held at Baltimore Peninsula near Under Armour’s global headquarters, marked the 20th anniversary of Vonn’s partnership with the Baltimore-based sportswear company. Mayor Brandon M. Scott unveiled the street sign, presented Vonn with a copy of it, and proclaimed November 4 “Lindsey Vonn Day” in the city.
“This is the only street that’s named after me, so thank you so much to everyone for all of the support,” Vonn said at the event. “Over 20 years, I have been coming to Baltimore. It’s amazing what has been built here through Under Armour. … This will be going in a very special place. I hope I’ll be driving on Lindsey Vonn Way a lot.”
Scott praised Vonn as a model of perseverance, telling the crowd: “Just like Baltimore, Lindsey’s story is one of grit and resilience. Today is an opportunity to celebrate an athlete who is truly a role model for the next generation, showing our young people that setbacks and challenges only make you stronger. This street honors the impact and legacy.” He also highlighted her influence on young women and her two-decade association with “the most special Baltimore brand, Under Armour.”
Under Armour founder and CEO Kevin Plank joined Vonn and Scott for the dedication. “Lindsey has been a face of Under Armour for 20 years, but what she represents goes deeper than that,” Plank said. “She has shown the world what it means to keep fighting for something you believe in, especially when it gets hard.”
Vonn signed with Under Armour in 2006 and remains its longest-tenured athlete partner. The relationship has spanned her peak dominance, multiple serious injuries and comebacks, retirement, and a high-profile return to competition after knee-replacement surgery. She is a three-time Olympic medalist (gold in downhill at the 2010 Vancouver Games—the first for an American woman—plus bronzes in super-G in 2010 and downhill in 2018), four-time overall World Cup champion, and holder of 84 World Cup victories along with 20 crystal globes and eight World Championship medals. She is widely regarded as one of the greatest alpine skiers in history and has also founded the Lindsey Vonn Foundation to empower girls from underserved communities.
The renamed street runs near Under Armour’s campus at Baltimore Peninsula, so employees and visitors will pass “Lindsey Vonn Way” daily. Officials framed the dedication as both a tribute to a landmark corporate-athlete partnership and a lasting civic recognition of Vonn’s resilience and impact beyond the slopes.
