The decision to overturn Luis Diaz’s goal in Liverpool’s 2-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur with nine men on the field was “a significant human error,” according to the referees’ union PGMOL.
Following an exceptionally rapid VAR review by Darren England, in which the standard offside line graphic was not displayed, Diaz’s goal was disallowed at 0-0 and with the Reds down a man.
“PGMOL acknowledge a significant human error occurred,” the statement said.
“PGMOL will perform a thorough review.”
The on-field crew of match officials rejected Luiz Diaz’s goal because of offside.
The goal should have been awarded as a result of the VAR’s intervention because this was a glaring factual error, but it did not.
Additionally, Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota were sent from the game, and the Reds lost on a Joel Matip own goal in stoppage time despite firmly keeping Spurs out.
Jurgen Klopp claimed in a post-game interview that “crazy decisions” and “the most unfair circumstances” led to his team’s loss.
“That is not offside when you see it,” he said to Sky Sports.
They drew the line incorrectly and failed to recognize the proper moment for Mo to pass the ball, so the ball is between Mo’s knees.
“I don’t think we should talk about that too much because it doesn’t help at all,” stated Klopp.
Wolves received a comparable message or apology. It makes no difference because we won’t score today and they didn’t gain a point from United.
“I’m very confident nobody makes mistakes on purpose, yet it still happened and I have no idea why at the moment. Would a spectacular goal by [us] have altered the outcome? I’m not sure. However, it’s likely that goals help.
Virgil van Dijk, the captain of Liverpool, claimed he is “losing faith” in VAR as a result of the officials’ erroneous decision to overturn Diaz’s goal without Stockley Park’s assistance.
He said, “I’m losing faith, which is hard to say.”
“The VAR should be completely transparent and obvious in all of their decisions. I’ve seen the still image; on live TV, no lines were visible. I don’t know who made that choice in the VAR room, but it all seems a little peculiar. Not only is it a bad thing, but it also doesn’t look nice. We lost, that is what it is.
It was “clear for everyone” to see that Diaz was in favor, according to Gary Neville, who called the decision “horrendous” and said he regretted it.
“That’s incredible! It is quite important. Although I have defended VAR and offsides rulings as facts, there have been a handful in recent weeks that I felt were incorrect, according to the former Manchester United defender.
“It all happened too fast. That one is terrible. It is obvious who is right and who is wrong. The past two weeks, something hasn’t been right.
The cameras they choose to draw the lines on are the wrong ones. It is strange.
Everyone would agree that this is appropriate, and it makes you question how many other choices they made that were poor, said Jamie Redknapp. They appear to have gotten that wrong by a yard. It does not seem good.
“For me, they completely misjudged that. We are overly complicating things. BBC
