.The 2023 Green Bay Packers exceeded most national media expectations. Green Bay, expected to finish last in the NFC North, posted a 9-8 record thanks to three straight wins to end the regular season.
This win not only gave them a winning record, but also earned them a spot in the NFL Playoffs, where they defeated the Dallas Cowboys in the wild card round.Much of the regular season success was due to Jordan Love exceeding everyone’s expectations in his first year as the starting quarterback.
When the decision was made to trade Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets, many expected the offense to take a step back. But that didn’t happen. Love and the offense have certainly struggled at various points in the season, but the young group of pass receivers along with the quarterback have led to some of the exciting plays we’ve come to expect from LaFleur’s offense.
One area of the team that did not live up to expectations was the defense. Sure, they ranked 9th in points allowed, but they were one of the worst defenses in the NFL and gave up many game-winning drives throughout the season and in the playoffs. This was supposed to be a division leading team due to the number of veterans and former first round picks.
Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.Barry’s touchdown came after his defensive tackle, Brock Purdy, and the San Francisco 49ers were forced off the field in the fourth quarter of the NFC Divisional round.
The drive resulted in a touchdown that gave the 49ers the lead and eventual victory.After the Packers’ 33-30 loss at Carolina, in which Barry’s defense allowed 30 points to the NFL’s worst offense, coach Matt LaFleur told the media that he would have more control over the defense.
Barry’s poor defensive scheme has cost the team too much this season, just like in previous seasons, and it’s time for a change.Coach LaFleur released the following statement on the Packers website:“We would like to thank Joe for his hard work and contribution to our success over the last three seasons.
“These decisions are very difficult, and Joe is one of the best people I’ve had the pleasure of working with in this league.”Barry is known in the NFL as one of the best guys in the game. He’s cute and players love playing for him. Unfortunately, a winning personality doesn’t always translate to wins on the field, and the Packers are looking for someone to add more strength to their defense.
