Troy Aikman said he’s not worried about booking a vacation for the postseason because he figured he’d be in San Francisco to watch the Dallas Cowboys play in the NFC Championship Game.
But that prediction never came true, as the Green Bay Packers ended the season after defeating Dallas in an embarrassing wild-card loss at AT&T Stadium to win the NFC East. Aikman’s prediction was partially correct, as the 49ers actually won the conference championship.
They host the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Now that his broadcast duties for the season are complete, the former Dallas quarterback shared his thoughts on the current state of the Cowboys.”It was very shocking,” Aikman said of the end of the Cowboys’ season.
“I really expected Dallas to make it to the championship,” Aikman said. “I thought it was in San Francisco. So I decided to go to the game. There are no holidays booked after my season.”I thought the Cowboys would come apart in the second half, but they didn’t,” Aikman said.
As part of Aikman’s job, he looked at many teams around the league and thought the Cowboys could make the playoffs.Instead, it’s a familiar song of disappointment for Dallas, which has failed to appear in the conference championship game for 28 straight seasons.
Even the three-time Super Bowl winners couldn’t provide the Cowboys with a solution to their postseason woes.”I don’t know what the answer is,” Aikman said.
