Josh McDaniels could have a future in New England.McDaniels, who was released by the Las Vegas Raiders last November, continues to look for work in the NFL.
He spent a lot of time with the Patriots in the final weeks of the regular season and even attended Bill Belichick’s farewell press conference. As of Thursday afternoon, there were no reports that McDaniels had been interviewed for New England’s vacant offensive coordinator job.
However, The Athletic’s Jeff Howe reported Wednesday that McDaniels could still get the job because of what happened with Belichick.
“If Belichick takes over from the Falcons, I think there’s a very good chance he’ll bring in (Josh) McDaniels,” Howe recently told the Boston Herald’s Andrew Callahan on the Pats Interference podcast. “If Belichick doesn’t land the spot for the Falcons, McDaniels could move to the top of the Patriots’ roster.
“Before Howe’s report, the Patriots interviewed or planned to interview three OC candidates: Dan Pitcher, Zach Robinson and Nick Keiley. The tight end was named offensive coordinator by the Cincinnati Bengals on Wednesday and is now out of New England.
In addition, Belichick is no longer the favorite for Atlanta’s head coaching job. His chances are dwindling and he likely won’t be coaching anywhere in 2024. There are still a lot of balls in the air. But the McDaniels-Patriots matchup could provide momentum.
