The NBA trade deadline is just two days away, and things will start to heat up surrounding your Los Angeles Lakers.
It’s almost a given that the Lakers will make a trade, but will it be a significant trade like for Dejounte Murray, or will the team trade for a position of need? It’s not certain, but those closer to the team believe it could be for a defensive wing.
Here’s what Jovan Buha of The Athletic had to say about LA’s plan ahead of Thursday’s deadline.
The team is putting a greater emphasis on adding a defensive wing by the trade deadline, according to team sources. The issue, of course, is that every team could use another wing. Prospective prices are high.
This comes as no surprise, especially after the unfortunate news of their defensive stalwart, Jarred Vanderbilt. Vanderbilt could be out for at least several weeks due to a significant right foot injury.
Without Vanderbilt, they will be without their second-best defender, and now a need for that position is crucial. Long-wing players are a necessity in today’s NBA, so the Lakers won’t be the only ones looking for one. Nonetheless, it won’t stop Los Angeles from trying.
This could change things for LA this week. Will the team be more aggressive in pursuing someone like Dorian-Finney Smith from the Brooklyn Nets? Or will they look to acquire former Laker champion and All-Defensive player Alex Caruso from the Bulls?
It’s all a mystery right now, and we’ll all be waiting to see what Rob Pelinka and the front office will do to this team.
