Enzo Fernandez’s agent responds to claims he…

The agent of Enzo Fernandez has rubbished suggestions the Argentine regrets signing such a long deal at Chelsea and insists he is totally committed to the west London club.

Chelsea recorded heavy back-to-back defeats in the Premier League over the past week, shipping eight goals against Liverpool and Wolves, and now sit in 11th place in the table – 15 points adrift of fourth place and the last Champions League berth.

That has led to suggestions that some of the club’s new arrivals have privately expressed regret at moving to Stamford Bridge, particularly on such long deals.

Fernandez, who joined Chelsea in a £107million deal from Benfica in January 2023, was handed a contract until 2031 so the club could amortise his transfer fee across the lengthy duration of his deal and thus skirt around financial fair play restrictions.

But his agent, Uriel Perez, has now hit out at the reports regarding Fernandez’s future at Chelsea and is absolutely adamant that he will not be leaving the club any time soon.

The player has no intention of leaving,’ Perez told Spanish newspaper AS.

‘The Chelsea hierarchy were very clear with this project. It’s a plan that was always going to be difficult at the beginning because new and young players were going to arrive.

‘But when the pieces of the team all fit together, Chelsea are going to move forward.

‘Enzo’s desire is to be on the team and win trophies. We have not met with any clubs or even tried to talk to any clubs, that’s not true.

‘We know what the player’s desire is. Obviously he would like Chelsea to be in a better position [in the league] but that will be achieved with hard work.’

The 23-year-old has had a somewhat mixed campaign and struggled slightly to live up to his £107m price tag, though he responded emphatically to the speculation surrounding him on Wednesday night.

Fernandez delivered an excellent display at Villa Park in Chelsea’s FA Cup fourth-round replay against Aston Villa, dominating the midfield and dictating the tempo of the contest.

He rounded off his display with a stunning free-kick to put Chelsea 3-0 up, firing an unstoppable effort past compatriot Emi Martinez, and then took off his shirt, pointing to both his name and then the pitch, as if to imply that he is going nowhere.
