Even though it seems difficult to believe just because Liverpool don’t know who the club’s new sporting director nor manager will be this summer, it doesn’t mean the club’s scouts are sitting back and relaxing in Hawaii. They are still actively searching for players.
The role of a scout is to compile a shortlist of players who could fit the profile of any prospective managers. Liverpool’s recruitment team will still be pursuing potential deals and players they could target ahead of the summer transfer window.
Who those players are we cannot be sure for certain. There is one player though, who has now been mentioned multiple times. And his name is once again resurfacing in the media as a potential candidate for Liverpool. A player who has even been praised by Gareth Southgate recently as a ‘top player.’
Marc Guehi on Liverpool’s transfer radar
According to The Telegraph, Liverpool are interested in Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi. The 23-year-old has been wearing the captain’s armband at Palace lately and he is extremely highly regarded. Having come through Chelsea’s prestigious academy system, Guehi has since worked his way up to become one of the best up and coming centre-backs in the Premier League.
The Telegraph claims Liverpool see Guehi as a potential target for the summer window. Of course, a lot will hinge on who the new manager is but Guehi does seem like a good fit for Liverpool.
He’s gotten a lot of experience at a high level in the Premier League with Palace over the last few years. And he’s also been capped multiple times by England’s senior national team as well. Still quite young, but he’s definitely at that age now, where he is ready for the next step in his career. A move to Anfield might be exactly that.
