Latest Liverpool news and gossip as several Reds players took to Instagram and social media to react to Darwin Nunez’s winning goal in the Premier League against Nottingham Forest
Darwin Nunez’s winning goal for Liverpool against Nottingham Forest has led to plenty of reaction from his teammates.
The Reds recorded a 1-0 victory over Forest at the City Ground on Saturday in the Premier League. Nunez’s header came in the ninth minute of second-half stoppage time, as his 14th goal of the season sparked euphoric celebrations among the players and the away fans.
Nunez had to settle for a place on the bench at kick-off in Nottingham, after recovering from a muscle injury that had kept him sidelined for the previous two games. The Uruguayan replaced Andy Robertson on the hour mark and scored with what proved to be one of the final moments of the game.
The goal led to several members of Liverpool’s squad posting on social media to provide their reactions. Many of them came from players who are currently unavailable due to injury.
Trent Alexander-Arnold was one of the first to post a message, with the Liverpool vice-captain recovering from a knee injury. On his Instagram story, Alexander-Arnold posted a photo of a TV with the Nunez celebration, accompanied by a caption that simply read: “Nunez” followed by three salute emojis.
Alexander-Arnold was not alone in posting to social media after the Nunez goal. Alexis Mac Allister, who provided the assist for the winning header, had a message for Nunez in what was the striker’s first game back from injury.
“It’s not over till it’s over! We are @liverpoolfc,” wrote Mac Allister. “Our number 9 is back.”
Mac Allister also had another post on his Instagram story which included a photo of himself smiling alongside Nunez in the City Ground tunnel. Mac Allister included the post with the caption: “Could someone tell him to smile?”
Dominik Szoboszlai also made his return from injury during the game, appearing as a second-half substitute. The Hungary international posted a message after Nunez’s goal, writing on Instagram: “A stylish comeback with an important win today!”
Ibrahima Konate and Wataru Endo each echoed the sentiment of playing to the final whistle following the dramatic conclusion to the game at the City Ground. Konate wrote: “‘TILL THE END,” while Endo said: “Until the end.”
Virgil van Dijk, who captained Liverpool to the victory, had a two-word message after helping keep a clean sheet and secure the three points. Van Dijk wrote: “This team!” The Reds will now prepare to face Sparta Prague in the Europa League last-16 first leg on Thursday night.
