Phil Foden shares Man City fear ahead of “massive” Premier League clash

Manchester United almost did Liverpool a favour on Sunday evening but it’s now clear how their fans must feel week in and week out.

    Disappointed.

Visiting Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium Erik ten Hag’s side raced into a 1-0 lead early in the first half after Marcus Rashford found the back of the net from nearly 30 yards with a first time thunderbolt.

However, they were unable to hold onto their lead and Phil Foden is the reason why.

At full-time, the score was 3-1 and any chances of dropping three points ahead of the huge trip to Anfield vanished.

City’s comeback win mirrored Liverpool’s own dramatic win in some ways after Darwin Nunez rescued a win over Nottingham Forest by scoring in the 99th minute – the latest the Reds have ever scored a goal in the Premier League.

With Arsenal in action tonight, the title race is heating up but Liverpool still lead the way.
Whether or not Liverpool will still lead the Premier League table next week depends on how they perform at Anfield against Pep Guardiola’s side on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp will be hoping to have Mohamed Salah back after Nunez and Dominik Szoboszlai returned from injury at the City Ground stadium on Saturday.

Phil Foden hints at Man City concern over recent Anfield record
After the 1-1 draw between Man City and Liverpool at the Etihad in November, both sides will be desperate to get the win this weekend. The winner will have the lead in the Premier League and the bragging rights for the season.

But despite some beautiful football against United, City do not have a great recent record at Anfield.

Since 2015 when Klopp took over, Manchester City have won just once at Anfield in the Premier League in eight attempts.

While speaking about the trip to face Liverpool at Anfield, Foden was asked about how big a fixture visiting the iconic stadium is.

“It’s massive,” Foden told Premier League Productions (03/03/24 at 5:55 pm). “It’s a stadium that we never seem to win a lot, so it’s going to be a challenge.

“It’s games we want to play in, the biggest games and the biggest occasions, so hopefully, we will be ready for it.”

A Liverpool win would take them to 66 points and leave City on 62. Arsenal would likely leapfrog them, dropping Guardiola’s side to third.
