It feels like one eye is already focused on the Manchester City game on Sunday for Liverpool. But before that there is a very important encounter in the Europa League. The Reds will take on Sparta Prague on Thursday in what is expected to be a tough clash.
Sparta Prague are a good side, who knocked out the much more favoured Galatasaray in the last round. Meanwhile in the group-stages they finished above La Liga side, Real Betis, and even beat the Spanish team.
Full of talented players. Sparta Prague plays an exciting attacking brand of football. The kind of football that is eye-catching, and that is set-up to score goals. It should come as no surprise that the Sparta Prague scored the most goals in the top-flight of the Czech Republic this season with 55 in total. They also conceded the fewest goals, so they are not going to be an easy opponent for Liverpool.
Former Liverpool forward, Patrik Berger will know all about Sparta Prague. He actually came through the ranks at the Czech giants, before joining Borussia Dortmund and then Liverpool. Now Berger has named three players from Sparta, who the Reds should watch out for.
Patrik Berger on three Sparta Prague players to watch out for
Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, Berger named three Sparta Prague players the Reds should look out for. Including one who is in great goal-scoring form this season.
“Ladislav Krejci is the leader of the team. He is the main man and plays centre-back,” Berger said.
“They also have Veljko Birmancevic, who is on loan from Toulouse. Lukas Haraslin is also a very, very good player, he’s from Slovakia. These three players are probably the star players they have, but they generally play really well as a team.”
Birmancevic is definitely the most interesting name out of the three players. He’s already got 22 goal contributions for Sparta Prague this season, including three goals in seven games in the Europa League. Meanwhile Haraslin has 19, with four in seven games in the Europa League.
Keep an eye on Krejci, who can play both defensive midfielder and centre-back. He’s also a huge goal threat from set-pieces.
