Peter Drury shares what the VAR official said after Jeremy Doku’s tackle in the last minute vs Liverpool

Peter Drury has now shared what the VAR officials said when Manchester City’s Jeremy Doku tackled Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister late on today.

Although the game ended in a draw, Mac Allister and his teammates seemed incensed that they weren’t awarded a late penalty for a high challenge.

Jeremy Doku appeared to make contact with the ball first but then followed through to place his boot on the Liverpool midfielder’s chest.

And although VAR checked the incident, they decided there wasn’t sufficient evidence to overturn the on-field decision of no penalty.

Of course, this is bound to be a huge talking point in the aftermath of the game, especially in a match with such fine margins.

And had Liverpool received a late penalty, then they could have been catapulted forward in the title race had the spot-kick been dispatched.

That being said, Peter Drury was commentating on the game for Sky Sports and shared what the VAR officials said when Liverpool demanded a penalty.

Drury simply relayed the VAR’s message, suggesting there was no reason to overturn the tight call.

He said: “Word from the VAR, Doku played it in a reasonable position.”

It’ll certainly be interesting to hear what the likes of both Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola thought of the call.

It would be a surprise if Pep thought a penalty should have been awarded, but Klopp may well have a different tune.

And although the Liverpool manager would have preferred the likes of Luis Diaz to settle the game, he may feel as if his team were slightly robbed late on.

It’s definitely a contentious one, and the debate will probably continue into the coming days.

The likes of Peter Drury and Gary Neville seemed to think City could be in danger when watching the events unfold live, but VAR ultimately deemed there to be no foul play on the Liverpool midfielder.

Definitely one that will divide opinion, and it’ll probably be a fairly even split depending on which side of the title race fans are on.

That being said, Mike Dean also noticed something extraordinary that Darwin Nunez did during today’s game.
