Incoming Liverpool boss Arne Slot will reportedly serve a different role with the Reds compared to Jurgen Klopp’s current position.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Slot has been all but confirmed as the candidate to take over the reins from Klopp, who is set to call time on his nine-year-long tenure at Anfield at the end of the season. The current Feyenoord manager will finish the campaign at the Dutch club and take over the 19-time Premier League this summer. However, as per The Times, the Dutchman will take up the role of head coach, unlike Klopp who had the role of manager of Liverpool
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN KLOPP AND SLOT’S ROLE?
The role of head coach, which will be taken up by Slot next season, is to look after the club’s on-field activities while focusing on coaching and preparing Liverpool’s first team. The Dutchman will work directly with sporting director, Richard Hughes, who will be in charge of recruitment and other parts of the football department. The duo will work under the guidance of Michael Edwards, the club’s new Chief Executive of Football, who returned to the club last month. Klopp, on the other hand, fulfilled the duties of both Slot and Hughes as he also had a major say in the recruitment department and on other sporting activities of the club.
DID YOU KNOW?
Slot is reportedly open to having a smaller role as compared to what Klopp currently has at the club. The Dutchman is comfortable in the system, with Feyenoord currently operating with a head coach and sporting director.
WHAT NEXT?
It is expected that Liverpool will officially confirm the signing of Slot from Feyenoord in the next few days, with the Merseyside club having agreed to a compensation deal worth up to £9.4 million ($12m) with the Dutch club. However, personal terms are still yet to be agreed between the two parties and only after that will the involved parties be able to announce the move.
