Ian Wright saddened by ‘heartbreaking’ Mohamed Salah moment as Liverpool change spotted

Ian Wright has admitted he was left disappointed by the ‘horrible’ exchange involving Jurgen Klopp and Mohamed Salah during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with West Ham United.

Much has been made of the moment involving Salah and the Reds’ boss as the Egyptian prepared to be introduced as a substitute at the London Stadium, which ended with the pair having to be separated by Darwin Nunez.

Salah only added to the drama after the match after insisting ‘there will be fire’ if he chose to speak about the incident, despite Klopp’s attempts to cool the situation by stating ‘we spoke in the dressing room’.

This clash on the touchline represented a new low in what has been a disastrous month for the Reds, ensuring Klopp’s reign is set to end in disappointing fashion. Saddened by the way in which Klopp’s tenure is drawing to a close, Wright remarked: “It’s horrible the way it’s ending. I felt really sad watching that. Mo Salah and Jurgen Klopp, there was a sadness to that.

“Especially when the game ended and there was a close-up on Mo walking off: he went to shake David Moyes’s hand, Jurgen Klopp was walking there too and they never even looked at each other.

“I think that, when you look at what that club have done under that manager with that player, for it to be now where Klopp is leaving at the end of the season, Salah is a little bit of form, and now they’re not talking, it’s heartbreaking.”

Jamie Carragher also weighed in on this debate on Sunday and urged supporters not to take sides. He said: “Mo Salah & Jurgen Klopp are both LFC legends. We don’t need to take sides! Salah is frustrated & angry with Jurgen that he’s not playing & at that moment didn’t want to fully embrace the boss, Jurgen understandably took exception.

“Mo was daft with his comment in the mixed zone but let’s let them sort it out and enjoy the last few weeks together. They’ve been a massive help to each other in all that’s been achieved at the club!”
