According to one BBC pundit, Virgil van Dijk was spotted having a go at one of his teammates in the first-half against Aston Villa.
It was a bright and exhilarating start to Liverpool’s penultimate game of the season. The Reds took the lead within the first two minutes with a touch of fortune from Emiliano Martinez.
Aston Villa came back to equalise just ten minutes later, though but Liverpool replied with another goal of their own nine minutes later.
The fans at Villa Park were definitely entertained, especially during that first twenty-minute period. However, on the pitch, there was frustration from some of the players.
Both teams will have felt like they should have done better and had made sloppy mistakes.
Clinton Morrison explains what Virgil van Dijk did to Trent Alexander-Arnold
One of the most notably frustrated players on the pitch was Virgil van Dijk. The Liverpool captain was visibly animated and was spotted at trying to inspire his teammates on numerous occasions.
Speaking on BBC 5 Live Clinton Morrison spotted how during one moment towards the end of the first-half, Van Dijk even started to have a go at Trent Alexander-Arnold.
“Trent Alexander-Arnold gives it away,” Morrison explained.
“It’s a great ball. It’s a good run from Diaby, but I don’t know why he is going high. He should be going hard and low into the bottom corner. He is leaning back and it goes over the bar.
“You saw Virgil van Dijk’s reaction. He was berating Trent Alexander-Arnold for giving the ball away and not getting back. They [Villa] are missing big chances.”
It’s good to see Van Dijk stepping up and showing his leadership qualities. Sometimes Alexander-Arnold does like to attempt the ‘Hollywood passes’, which can often go astray and lose Liverpool possession.
He needs to be better and in this game it was obvious Liverpool needed more control on the ball.
