Darwin Nunez has spoken out on Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool exit after appearing distant in the German’s Liverpool send-off
WHAT HAPPENED?
After Klopp’s last game as Liverpool boss, a 2-0 win over Wolves at Anfield, every Reds player appeared to clap the German as he made his way through a guard of honour – except Nunez. A week on from Klopp’s departure, the Uruguayan has given his thoughts on the legacy he leaves behind at Anfield, effectively squashing talk of a rift between the two men.
WHAT DARWIN NUNEZ SAID
Nunez said to Polideportivo: “We were all a little shocked by Klopp’s departure, no one expected it. It is a shame that he is leaving. I personally would like him to leave in a big way, winning things, and it didn’t happen that way. It’s also a shame for the players. I wish him the best in the world.”

Klopp will be a very hard act to follow after nearly nine years in charge, where the Reds won the Champions League, Premier League, and more. Arne Slot will succeed the German at Anfield and one of his tasks will be getting the best out of Nunez – who had to be content with a bench role in Liverpool’s last four games of the season. Nunez also sparked controversy when deleting all Liverpool-related photos from his Instagram page, and has been linked with a summer transfer, but he is still under contract at Anfield until 2028.

Reds striker Nunez, who scored 18 goals and bagged 13 assists for Liverpool in the 2023-24 campaign, may feature for Uruguay in their upcoming friendlies against Costa Rica on May 31 and then Mexico on June 5.
