Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen hopeful of returning for Conference League trip to Panathinaikos

Filip Jorgensen is hopeful of returning in time to get his chance in Chelsea’s Conference League clash with Panathinaikos this Thursday, with the goalkeeper having missed out on making the match-day squad at Liverpool because of suspected concussion.

Jorgensen, who is the Blues’ cup goalie bidding to overtake Robert Sanchez as No 1, had to be substituted while representing Denmark’s Under 21s last Tuesday after colliding with a team-mate.

The 22-year-old has shown no adverse symptoms since returning to London, but Chelsea are following the FA’s return-to-play protocols, hence his absence at Anfield on Sunday.

There has been no specific timeframe placed on his return, as it depends on him passing each stage in order to be signed off, but it is possible Jorgensen could come back in time to start in the Conference League as usual.

Panathinaikos would represent an opportunity for him to place extra pressure on Sanchez, who has faced occasional criticism from supporters for his performances this season.

Chelsea lost 2-1 at Liverpool on Sunday, with Mohamed Salah scoring a penalty and Curtis Jones grabbing the winner after breaking behind the visitors’ back line.
Jorgensen was signed in the summer from Villarreal for £20.7million on a seven-year deal.
