Clinton Morrison says Liverpool have a ‘brilliant’ homegrown talent in their ranks that could start tonight

Liverpool’s great start to the Premier League campaign continued as they ran out 2-1 winners over Chelsea on Sunday.

Arne Slot’s Reds moved back to the top of the table thanks to a Mohamed Salah penalty and a Curtis Jones winner, which cancelled out Nicolas Jackson’s equaliser.

Plenty of Liverpool players impressed on the day, including a homegrown talent who Sky Sports pundit Clinton Morrison deemed “brilliant”.

Clinton Morrison hails Liverpool star Curtis Jones
The player in question is Curtis Jones, who delivered arguably one of the best performances of his career against the Blues.

Aside from scoring the winner, the Liverpool academy graduate also won the penalty for Salah to score the opener at Anfield.

Jones also impressed with his ability to link things up in the middle of the park, pressed relentlessly, and barely gave the ball away.

Morrison loved what he saw from Jones, telling Sky Sports News (22/10/2024, 7:16pm): “This young man comes into the team, Curtis Jones, who hasn’t been playing.

“He is a brilliant footballer. He kept Cole Palmer quiet, defensive duties and he got forward and scored.”

As per Sofascore, Jones completed 37 of his 41 passes for a 90 percent pass accuracy rate and delivered two key passes in the game.

The 23-year-old also successfully delivered two long balls, had two efforts on target, completed one dribble, and won six of his eight ground duels.

Jones also chipped in on the defensive front with three tackles, one interception and one block against Enzo Maresca’s side.

Liverpool are next in action on Wednesday night when they take on RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

The game is scheduled to kick off at 8pm at Leipzig’s Red Bull Arena, and there’s a good chance Jones will start for the Reds once again.

Liverpool then return to Premier League action on Sunday 27 October when they take on Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, 4:30pm kick-off.
