Top journalist says why Liverpool are starting to ‘annoy’ him after Champions League win vs Bayer Leverkusen

Liverpool continued their phenomenal season under Arne Slot by thumping Bayer Leverkusen 4-0 in the Champions League.

Slot outclassed former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso in the Anfield dugout, with Luis Diaz the hero on the pitch with a superb hat-trick.

Diaz and Curtis Jones caught the eye as they combined for the opening goal, which arrived after Alonso managed to subdue Anfield early on.

After a tense first-half battle, Liverpool finally broke the deadlock on the hour mark, with Cody Gakpo adding a second just moments later.

Diaz then fired the ball home twice late on to secure his hat-trick, with the Reds now top of the Champions League table.

Liverpool annoy Jason Cundy after 4-0 win vs Bayer Leverkusen
It is four wins from four in the competition for the Merseyside club, who are also top of the Premier League table.

Their superb season under Slot has, however, angered Jason Cundy, with the pundit saying on talkSPORT: “Liverpool annoy me, because they’re getting results, and you can’t say they’re brilliant, but they keep winning. It’s a compliment.

“You’re a team that’s efficient. Defensively you can’t get past you. It’s a great habit, at the moment you’re getting the job done. Tonight you got the job done, and some.

“Top of the table in the Premier League, can’t complain. Top of the Champions League table, can’t complain. In the next round of the Carabao Cup. Right now everything’s rosy in the garden of Liverpool.”

Anfield hero Arne Slot exceeding expectations at Liverpool
Slot has exceeded all expectations at Anfield, having been given the unenviable task of taking over from Jurgen Klopp.

But he has quickly endeared himself to all Liverpool fans, who simply cannot believe how well things have been going this season.

The challenge doesn’t stop now, however, with the busy and tricky period continuing against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Not long after that, there are meetings with Real Madrid and Manchester City in the Champions League and Premier League respectively.

Slot must continue taking things one game at a time, with his game and player management having been excellent so far.

Rotation will be key in the months to come, although the Reds have been boosted by the current wobbles of Man City and Arsenal.
