PITTSBURGH — The NFL trade deadline has passed, and the Pittsburgh Steelers were among the most active teams at the deadline. They acquired wide receiver Mike Williams and edge rusher Preston Smith, boosting two rooms on each side of the football.
Williams finally ends the saga of finding another wide receiver. Meanwhile, Smith gives the Steelers some depth at edge rusher after injuries have smacked the position consistently.
As a result, the Steelers now have a new WR2 and a new depth pass rusher that they can utilize. So, how much better did the team just get?
They did only give up two day three picks to upgrade two spots that the team had to upgrade. More than that, the Steelers got deeper at both positions. Williams and Smith very well may be rentals. However, if Pittsburgh can parlay that into postseason success, it will make it all worth it for general manager Omar Khan and his front office.
