PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers’ promising second-year cornerback Cory Trice Jr. is still a bit away from a return to the field. Trice’s hamstring is nearing full health, but in order to return to the practice field, Trice must meet certain thresholds.
For example, sources tell PennLive that Trice must run at least 20 miles per hour to return to practice. He has to demonstrate the health of his hamstring, and recent scans have shown that it is nearly fully healed after he suffered a grade 2 strain against the Los Angeles Chargers.
The Steelers will continue to give Trice opportunities to meet marks such as the one above, and once he does, his practice window will be opened. As it stands, Trice could return as soon as next week against the Baltimore Ravens, sources tell PennLive.
Pittsburgh does intend to bring Trice back and plug him in as the top reserve behind Joey Porter Jr. and Donte Jackson. They were pleased with his progress before the injury, and Pittsburgh is excited to get a quality piece of their secondary back soon.
