Former Gators QB Could Be on the Move

Kyle Trask, the former University of Florida Gators quarterback, might be on the move this offseason. According to ESPN’s Michael DiRocco, Trask could be a name to watch for the Jacksonville Jaguars, which would reunite him with head coach Liam Coen. Coen worked with Trask during their time together in Tampa Bay, and his familiarity with Coen’s offensive system could make him a seamless fit as a backup to Trevor Lawrence.

Trask, a second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, has seen limited action with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Stuck behind Tom Brady and later Baker Mayfield, Trask has yet to make a significant impact in the NFL. However, a fresh start in Jacksonville could be just what he needs to revive his career.

During his time at the University of Florida, Trask had a stellar collegiate career. In 2020, he led the entire FBS with 43 passing touchdowns, breaking Danny Wuerffel’s single-season record. Trask finished his career in Gainesville with impressive statistics, including a 67.9% completion rate, 7,586 passing yards, 69 touchdowns, and just 15 interceptions over 27 games. His performance earned him Second-Team All-SEC honors and a trip to New York as a Heisman Trophy finalist.

The Gators’ offense under Trask was one of the most electrifying in school history, culminating in a trip to the SEC Championship Game and a near-College Football Playoff appearance. Although his professional career has yet to take off, Trask’s familiarity with Coen’s scheme could give him a real shot at sticking around in the league.

If Trask ends up in Jacksonville, Gators fans will have one more reason to keep an eye on the Jaguars this season. A reunion with Coen and a fresh start in a familiar territory could be just what Trask needs to revive his NFL career.

As the NFL offseason unfolds, Trask’s future will be one to watch. Will he find a new home in Jacksonville, or will he remain with the Buccaneers? One thing is certain: Gators fans will be rooting for Trask to succeed, wherever his NFL journey takes him.

In conclusion, Kyle Trask’s potential move to the Jacksonville Jaguars could be a game-changer for his NFL career. With his familiarity with Coen’s scheme and a fresh start in a familiar territory, Trask may finally have the opportunity to showcase his skills and prove himself as a capable quarterback in the league.
