In a post-Olympic explosion of speed on Andorra’s demanding Aliga track, Switzerland’s Corinne Suter charged to a triumphant victory in the FIS Alpine World Cup women’s downhill in Soldeu on February 27, 2026—her first World Cup win since December 2022 and a much-needed redemption after a challenging season.

Suter, starting relatively early, unleashed a flawless run to clock 1:31.62, holding off fierce challenges from the top contenders and securing her sixth career World Cup downhill triumph. The 31-year-old from Schwyz capitalized on the high temperatures and track conditions, proving unstoppable as later starters couldn’t match her time.

Austria’s Nina Ortlieb claimed a strong runner-up spot at just +0.11 seconds back, marking her return to the podium after three years. Italy’s Sofia Goggia rounded out the podium in third, +0.24 off the pace, adding another strong result to her storied career.

The race marked the return of World Cup speed action following the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics, where Lindsey Vonn’s injury-forced absence left the downhill crystal globe battle wide open. With Vonn sidelined and leading the standings entering the event, Suter’s win shakes up the discipline and boosts her position in the late-season push for the crystal globe.

The top 10 results from Soldeu delivered tight racing and surprises:

    Corinne Suter (SUI) – 1:31.62

    Nina Ortlieb (AUT) – +0.11

    Sofia Goggia (ITA) – +0.24

(Additional top finishers included strong showings from the likes of Ester Ledecka, Laura Pirovano, and others battling for crucial points in the reshuffled post-Olympic calendar.)

Fans erupted online as Suter’s performance signaled the Swiss team’s resurgence, with coverage highlighting her “unleashed” skiing in variable conditions. The Soldeu stop continues with Super-G events ahead, keeping the momentum rolling in this dramatic end-of-season sprint.
