Lindsey Vonn’s Triumphant Return: “Home Sweet Home” – Ski Icon Finally Out of Hospital, Sharing Bandaged Leg Pics as She Focuses on Healing After Near-Amputation Scare

Nearly a month after a catastrophic crash that almost ended her career—and her leg—Olympic skiing superstar Lindsey Vonn is finally back in her own bed, declaring it’s time to get healthy and rebuild.

In a heartfelt Instagram post shared on March 1, the 41-year-old legend posted cozy photos from home: cuddling her beloved dog Chance on the couch, her heavily bandaged left leg propped up prominently. “Home sweet home. Feels good to sleep in my own bed… I’m focused now on therapy and getting healthy,” she captioned the update, radiating relief and determination after weeks of hospital hell.

The emotional milestone comes after Vonn’s terrifying tumble just 13 seconds into the women’s downhill at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics on February 8. Competing despite a pre-existing torn ACL, she clipped a gate, fracturing her tibia, fibula head, and tibial plateau in her left leg, plus breaking her right ankle. Acute compartment syndrome set in fast—a brutal pressure buildup that threatened muscle and tissue death, forcing doctors to warn of potential amputation.

Team USA surgeon Dr. Tom Hackett performed a critical fasciotomy to save the limb, followed by multiple surgeries in Italy (including stabilizing hardware) before she could safely fly home via private medical transport, still confined to a hospital bed. A fifth major operation in the U.S. addressed further complications, leaving her wheelchair-bound with neither leg weight-bearing yet.

Vonn has been candid about the grueling toll: severe muscle atrophy, intense pain, emotional lows (including grieving the recent loss of her dog Leo right after the crash), and the mental battle ahead. But her latest update marks real progress—she’s out of the hospital, transitioning to home recovery, and eyeing the long road: months in a wheelchair before crutches, up to a year for bone healing, then potential hardware removal and ACL repair.

Fans have flooded her with support, praising her unbreakable spirit. “One day at a time,” she’s said, hugging her pup and soaking in the simple joy of home while gearing up for intensive therapy.

From the brink of losing a leg to reclaiming her space—Lindsey Vonn’s resilience is rewriting the comeback story once again. The slopes may wait, but her fight is far from over.

Keep pushing, Lindsey. The world is rooting for you. ⛷️🏠❤️‍🩹
