Even the Ski Queen Needs a Day Off — Lindsey Vonn’s Brutal Rehab Grind

Lindsey Vonn, the 41-year-old American skiing icon who defied age, a torn ACL, and a horrifying crash at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, is opening up about the grind of her recovery — and revealing that she’s finally carving out one precious day of lighter duties each week.

In a candid new interview with The Athletic, Vonn detailed her relentless six-day-a-week rehab schedule as she battles back from the complex tibia fracture and multiple surgeries that nearly cost her leg — and possibly her career.

“Wake up at 7:30, breakfast at 8, 9 to 11 is rehab at my house. I have a little break, eat some food. Go to a hyperbaric chamber. Do about two hours with decompression… And then usually work out from like 5 to 6:30,” she described. “That’s kind of my day every day, six days a week.”

Then comes the admission fans have been waiting for: “Sunday is kind of a day off without a scheduled program. But I, of course, always go to the gym on my own.”

It’s classic Vonn — even her “day off” involves sweat. The five-time Olympic medalist, who made a stunning comeback to reach No. 1 in the world again at 41 before the devastating downhill crash, refuses to slow down completely. Her focus remains laser-sharp on getting healthy, one painful step at a time.

Vonn has been open about the physical and mental toll since the Olympics. She’s spoken about intense early pain, isolation during recovery in Utah, and the long road ahead that could include more procedures. Yet she’s also hinted she hasn’t fully closed the door on a return to competitive skiing, though her immediate priority is simply reclaiming normal life.

For a woman who has built a legacy on unbreakable resilience — battling injuries that would end most careers — this small concession to rest feels almost revolutionary. It’s a reminder that behind the records, podiums, and fearless speed is a human being who knows when the body needs just a little mercy.

Fans have flooded social media with support, many calling it proof of her discipline while others joke that Vonn’s “day off” would still crush their best training week.

Whether she laces up the skis again or not, one thing is clear: Lindsey Vonn isn’t done fighting. She’s just smart enough to know that even champions occasionally need to hit pause — sort of.

Stay tuned. With Vonn, the comeback story is never truly over.
