“It’s Been Really Low”: Lindsey Vonn Opens Up on Mental Health Battle After Devastating Olympic Crash

Lindsey Vonn has revealed the emotional toll of her recent Winter Olympics injury, opening up about a difficult mental health battle that followed her devastating crash on the slopes.

The Olympic legend suffered a severe leg injury during the women’s downhill event at the 2026 Winter Games, bringing her highly anticipated comeback to an abrupt end. The crash was so serious that she had to be airlifted from the mountain and rushed into emergency surgery.

While her physical recovery has shown steady progress, Vonn has admitted that the mental impact has been far more challenging.

In a recent interview, she described her emotional state as “up and down,” acknowledging that the weeks following the injury included some particularly low moments. Despite gradual improvement, she said the experience tested her in ways she had not anticipated.

One of the most difficult aspects of her recovery was the period of isolation that followed the surgery. Vonn spent more than two weeks in the hospital with limited mobility, relying heavily on others for basic support—a stark contrast to the independence that defined her career.

She described the experience as deeply challenging, noting that being completely immobile for an extended period took a significant toll on her mental well-being. The loss of routine, combined with physical pain and uncertainty about the future, contributed to her struggles.

Vonn also confirmed that she has been dealing with depression during her recovery, though she emphasized that things have started to improve in recent weeks. Her openness about the issue has resonated widely, with fans and fellow athletes expressing support and admiration for her honesty.

Throughout her career, Vonn has been known for her resilience, repeatedly overcoming injuries to return to competition. However, this chapter highlights a different kind of battle—one that takes place away from the slopes and often out of public view.

Her decision to speak openly about mental health adds to a growing conversation in sport, where athletes are increasingly sharing the realities behind recovery and performance. For many, her story serves as a reminder that even the strongest competitors can face moments of vulnerability.

As she continues her recovery, the focus remains on both physical and emotional healing. While a return to the slopes has not been ruled out, Vonn’s immediate priority is regaining her strength and stability in all aspects of her life.

For Lindsey Vonn, this journey is no longer just about competing again—it is about overcoming one of the most personal challenges she has ever faced.
