The Pittsburgh Steelers have made two moves to their coaching staff, changing the role of one offensive assistant and hiring an outside candidate.
Per the team’s website, the Steelers have officially changed former quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan’s role to senior offensive assistant. After hiring Tom Arth as their new QB coach, Pittsburgh will retain Sullivan but have made his role broader as they keep an experienced coach on their staff.
Sullivan had two offensive coordinator interviews outside of the team, meeting with the Las Vegas Raiders and New Orleans Saints, but did not get hired for either job. His relationship with Kenny Pickett should help the young quarterback progress in year three.
The Steelers have also hired Phil Matusz as their strength and conditioning coach. Matusz has been the head strength and conditioning coach at Boston College for the last four years. Prior to his work at BC, he was the assistant conditioning coach at Ohio State for six seasons.
Pittsburgh is narrowing their needed positions this offseason with the two moves. They could look to hire another strength and conditioning coach after losing both of them this year. They may also be in the market for an assistant defensive backs coach after Gerald Alexander left for the Las Vegas Raiders.
