Steelers Could Poach Former 1,000-Yard WR From Division Rival

While you wouldn’t think wide receiver is an obvious position of need for the Pittsburgh Steelers, they could certainly use some veteran depth behind George Pickens and Diontae Johnson.

Plus, let’s face it: Pickens and Johnson are both kind of Jekyll-and-Hyde, so the Steelers could really stand to bring in some more stability at wide out.

That’s why Bleacher Report’s NFL Scouting Department thinks signing Cincinnati Bengals receiver Tyler Boyd in free agency would be a swell idea.

Boyd has spent his entire career facing Pittsburgh twice a year, but with the Bengals trying to re-sign Tee Higgins and also worrying about having to pay Ja’Marr Chase in the future, Boyd could end up being the odd man out in Cincinnati.

That would open the door for the Steelers to try and bring him over to the other side of the rivalry, and let’s remember that Boyd went to the University of Pittsburgh and grew up a Steelers fan.

Even as a tertiary option behind Chase and Higgins, Boyd still managed to log 67 catches for 667 yards and a couple of touchdowns this past season.

Those numbers were actually all Boyd’s lowest marks since 2017, when he played in just 10 games due to injury, but they are still solid statistics for a No. 3 guy.

Boyd was selected by the Bengals in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft and has been a consistent option for Cincinnati ever since.

He logged back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns in 2018 and 2019, topping out at 1,046 yards in the latter season. He has not reached that type of production since, but he has posted over 800 yards twice.

The 29-year-old would definitely represent a great addition to the Steelers’ receiving corps.
