‘Now it is different’ – Moisès Caicedo makes Alexis Mac Allister admission after…

Liverpool’s priority last summer was to reinvent the midfield after what had been a poor 2022/23 season from the team as a whole. Considering what had come before (and what has happened since), last season was an anomaly, and it was an indicator that the midfield needed a serious clearout of players and new options needed to arrive in order to bring a fresh impetus.

The likes of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Naby Keïta, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner all departed. The end result was Liverpool being interested in a host of midfielders, and a transfer war breaking out with Chelsea over the same players.

One of those was Moisés Caicedo. Then at Brighton, the midfielder was one of Jürgen Klopp’s top targets and a deal had been agreed between the clubs, only for Caicedo to spurn Liverpool in favor of a move to west London.

Liverpool had already secured his former teammate at Brighton, Alexis Mac Allister, signing the Argentine in a deal that could rise to $69m (£55m/€63m) should add-ons and bonuses be reached. Mac Allister has been influential in Liverpool’s midfield so far this season, and this has drawn praise from Caicedo.

Speaking to YouTube channel Stadium Astro, Caicedo was asked who he liked playing alongside more between Mac Allister and Enzo Fernández, and lavished praise on his former Brighton teammate.

“You’ve also played with another great Argentinian, are there similarities between Enzo and Alexis do you find?“ Caicedo was asked.

“Yeah but a different system at Brighton, we played another system, now it is different. They are top players, I enjoyed it with Mac Allister and now I enjoy it with Enzo. It’s amazing, they have a great mentality. Mac Allister helped me a lot,” Caicedo said.

Caicedo, on the other hand, has struggled to assert himself at Chelsea, and the Blues have endured a poor season, with Liverpool besting Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the final of the Carabao Cup at Wembley on Sunday with Caicedo in midfield alongside Fernández.
