Jurgen Klopp makes claim about Unai Emery Aston Villa vs Liverpool game

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has made a claim about Unai Emery’s Aston Villa side after last night’s draw at Villa Park.

Aston Villa came from behind to secure a vital point against Liverpool on Monday evening.

The Villains trailed 3-1 heading into the 80th minute but two late goals from substitute Jhon Duran ensured the points were shared in the Midlands.

Leon Bailey even had an opportunity to grab all three points for Villa but was denied by a brilliant stop from Alisson Becker.

It’s fair to say that Villa created the better quality chances on the night as they managed a total of 3.53 xG to Liverpool’s 1.18.

And Jurgen Klopp had some praise for Unai Emery’s side after last night’s clash at Villa Park.

Klopp makes claim about Emery and Villa
Speaking to the media following an entertaining 3-3 draw, Klopp claimed that Emery’s sides are typically ‘sensationally well-organised’.

However, despite the goals, the German boss feels his side dominated the game and didn’t allow Villa to play on the front foot.

“I don’t feel frustrated. Maybe I should, but I just don’t. I am really happy,” he said. “Look, we all saw these kind of games before; we all saw games where one team is playing for absolutely everything – qualifying for the Champions League probably means for Aston Villa everything – and one team is already fixed in the position they are in.

“The challenge we had today was we had to show character and attitude – and the boys showed sensational character and sensational attitude. I loved that.

“That you can dominate the game like we did here today and against a [good] team, Unai Emery teams [are] historically sensationally well-organised. They wanted to be aggressive and they wanted to go for us and they couldn’t because we were that flexible, I liked that a lot.

“We scored early with some scrappy thing, I don’t know exactly how the ball went over the line – I didn’t see it properly from my position and couldn’t watch it back yet. Their first chance is then the equaliser but around that we controlled it, we play well, we create, we mix it up really well, in behind, in between and I liked it a lot. We adapted to the ideas they had, we improved our protection because the counter-attacking threat was obviously there, but we adjusted to that and it was good. Two-one, nice goal, second half, again good, not a big change and they all of a sudden push us back or whatever.”

    Villa vs Liverpool stats
While Liverpool dominated the ball as they boasted 59 per cent possession at Villa Park, Emery’s side undoubtedly posed a greater threat in the final third.

According to Sofascore, the Villains managed 19 shots while creating three big chances in the game.

Diego Carlos missed an open goal in the first half and Bailey even had an opportunity to complete a dramatic comeback.

The draw leaves Villa within touching distance of securing a Champions League spot for next season.

Should Tottenham lose to Manchester City tonight, it would confirm a fourth-place finish for Emery’s side.

Yet, if Spurs pull off a surprise win, the final day of the season would become a decisive day for Villa as they travel to Selhurst Park.
