Alexis Mac Allister has brushed off potential transfer interest from Real Madrid ahead of the summer transfer window. The midfielder enjoyed a fine debut season at Liverpool following his $45m (£35m/€41m) move from Brighton.
Mac Allister featured in 33 of Liverpool’s 38 matches in the Premier League and headed in his seventh goal of the campaign against Wolves on the final day.
According to Argentine publication DSports Radio, the 25-year-old has a release clause worth $76m (£60m/€70m) in his contract at Anfield. And that has reportedly put Real Madrid on alert ahead of the summer transfer window opening.
Real boss Carlo Ancelotti is said to be a big fan of Mac Allister as he eyes reinforcements in his midfield. Toni Kroos announced on Tuesday that he will retire after Euro 2024 this summer.
Mac Allister is set to link up with his national team and was asked by ESPN Argentina about a potential move to the Bernabeu. He said: “I don’t talk about assumptions. I’m very happy at Liverpool.”
Argentina are favorites to go on and defend their Copa America title in the United States this summer. Lionel Scaloni’s side kickstarts the tournament against Canada on June 20.
Should Argentina go all the way in the competition to the final on July 14, Mac Allister will miss the start of pre-season with Liverpool. The Telegraph reported earlier this week that new boss Arne Slot and his squad will reconvene earlier than planned, in the first week of July.
Mac Allister is likely to be a big part of Slot’s plans heading into the new season. He was regularly used as both a No.6 and further forward under Jürgen Klopp, with Slot known to favor a 4-2-3-1 system.
