Liverpool could make new signings this summer and Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on a potential approach for one Serie A star.
The Reds are in the market for a new midfielder this summer despite spending over £100m on new recruits in the position last summer.
With Arne Slot coming in to take over from Jurgen Klopp, there’s speculation that new players could also follow.
One of those players is a midfielder Slot knows well in the form of Atalanta star, Teun Koopmeiners.
As we reported exclusively on Rousing the Kop, Koopmeiners is very much a player of interest to Slot and Liverpool.
And speaking on Koopmeiners and the Reds’ interest, Fabrizio Romano has offered up his latest info.
“Teun Koopmeiners – We’re seeing more links with Liverpool, but I’m still told he’s a priority target for Juventus this summer. Juve are working on it,” Romano said.
“Let’s see what happens at Liverpool but my information is that there is nothing concrete so far, we will see as soon as Arne Slot meets with the club’s new directors.”
Slot will surely push for players he knows
We all know that part of being Liverpool manager is being able to work under FSG and now, Michael Edwards, when it comes to transfers.
But every manager also has players he knows well and trusts and Koopmeiners is someone who has worked closely with Arne Slot before.
That sort of trust for a new manager at a new club could be massive and it wouldn’t be one bit surprising if Koopmeiners ended up at Anfield.
At around £60m, he’s going to be a decent outlay. But we saw last season how good Dominik Szoboszlai was at times for similar money and given Koopmeiners has driven Atalanta to success this season, it could well be money well spent.
